Winona Ryder professional Winona Ryder was born in Winona Minnesota. It was her parents in honor of the town in which she was raised. Michel Horowitz was her father as well as Cynthia Palmer, his mother who were both authors as well as editors. Ryder is a Jew. Ryder believes that her father came from an Jewish heritage. The actress is the younger sister of Uria and half-siblings Jubal as well as Sunyata. Ryder's parents moved out of Mendocino, California, at the age of seven old. They had no electricity. No televisions were Ryder's only distraction for her time, and she began to read extensively. When she turned 12 years old, Ryder joined the American Conservatory Theatre to take classes in acting. The actress landed her first part on the big screen in 1986 at the age of 15 young. Ryder suffered bullying in the school she attended. Ryder hoped the acting profession would improve this. Unfortunately, it wasn't to be. She continued to pursue her dream. She made her debut in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice in 1988. Ryder continued to play successful characters in numerous films. In 1993 Ryder was twice nominated to win Academy Awards. One of which was for her character on the film The Age of Innocence.
